Brazil developed a "will eat" carbon dioxide ceramic material(2/22/2010)
According to local media reports, the Federal University of Minas Gerais, two chemists and a company co-developed a ceramic body, can filter carbon dioxide emissions from fuel combustion material, and translate them into industrial raw materials .
At present, the experiment revealed that the ceramic fuel combustion could capture 40% of the carbon dioxide emitted by the material. Next, the inventors plan to further improve the ceramic filter carbon dioxide's ability to achieve capture 60% of fuel emissions purposes.
Reported that the first researchers to use a paste like substance, but it is very difficult. Later, they conceived of solid materials with a carbon dioxide filter, so use of a ceramic. Due to the patent, the kinds of ceramic exact chemical composition has not yet disclosed.
Researchers said the ceramic microstructure with gas combined weight of the experiment 10 grams of ceramic balls combined with the gas will reach 14 g weight. When the filling of carbon dioxide, the heat or chemical reaction principle can be extracted from the ceramic body to serve as industrial raw materials, recycling, such as the cooling agent (whose coagulation is carbonized carbon dioxide gas). Now, they have to find ways to integrate this setting and factory emissions system to better integrate way.
At present, this maximum value of the reaction temperature of ceramics is 600 degrees Celsius. Emissions in different plant species vary, the temperature is different, the researchers intend to further expand the scope of this ceramic temperature adaptation.
